Welcome to my first ever blog post

In the competitve world of photography one of the things that I'm beginning to learn is that you have to have many ways to reach your fans and clients.

Thus, this blog. I can't guarantee that everything that I put on here will make a lot of sense or have any value to a large portion of the world but for my small group of followers hopefully it provides a little more insight into my crazy mind.

In 15 Years of Sports Photography: A First!

With 15 years of experience shooting sports of all sorts I thought I had experienced just about everything possible. Then Saturday happened. Both sides of the gym were packed with fans ready to erupt, like shown above, in support for its respective team! I was court-side with my camera for the highly anticipated matchup between MFL MarMac and Cascade in boys playoff basketball. There was an estimated 2,000+ people in attendance to take in the big game in the gorgeous gym at West Delaware High School in Manchester. I was shooting for Sports Spotlight , a Des Moines based publication that spotlights high school and collegiate athletics across the state. It was a pretty big game as the winner would punch its ticket to the state basketball tournament in Des Moines and the loser would see its season end. (This is part one of hopefully many more features that I will bring to you in the coming weeks and months. I hope to spotlight more area businesses that either have a local connection, share a similar interest as I do or feature a unique story that just needs to be told. Natalie Mormann brings a small town smile and charm to Bride's Corner, a 30+ year fixture in the uber-competitive bridal gown market in the Cedar Valley, Iowa and Midwest. Bride's Corner features 3,200 square feet of today's latest fashions in bridal gowns and Prom dresses. Don't let the title "Business Owner" fool you. Natalie Mormann is as small-town as they come. "I'm from the Manchester area and went to Maquoketa Valley High School," she said with a warm, welcoming chuckle. "Sure, there were opportunities to move away and work in a big city but I don't know, I guess I just love this area."

JScott Images Earns 1st Place in Iowa Marketing Awards

Members of the Independence student section stand behind a giant sign showing their excitement for winning #WeWantJScott. They were just one of many Eastern Iowa schools to help turn the contest into an award winning marketing campaign. 140 characters. Three simple words. One hashtag. What started out as a fun contest to help create a buzz for JScott Images on social media --especially on Twitter --turned into an award winning marketing campaign recently when the contest earned two major awards during the Iowa Marketing Awards at the Professional Photographers of Iowa 2014 Winter Convention. #WeWantJScott beat out many other great submissions and earned 1st place as the state's top marketing campaign for studio brand and it also won the coveted "Bootstrapper" Award as the top low-cost marketing idea by any photographer in the state!  Here's me receiving my awards with now former PPI President and current Master Photographer John Stalzer of Stalze
