Wedding and Prom Dress Central: Bride's Corner, Waterloo, IA

Image
Natalie Mormann didn't go out looking to own and operate Bride's Corner. It found her . "We've come leaps and bounds from where we started," she said about the store that she knows and loves so well. Bride's Corner , a 30+ year staple in the wedding dress industry in the Waterloo area, has been ran by Mormann and her dedicated staff for nearly the past 10 years. Before deciding to jump into the role of owner/operator she spent many years working as an associate trying to master the business of helping brides-to-be make the decision of their life. Located at 620 Commercial St, Waterloo, Iowa , it's 3,200-square feet of wedding dress heaven nestled near the bustling downtown business area yet is set off to the side far enough where visitors from smaller and more easy-going parts of Iowa and the Midwest don't feel like they're too deep into the "big city". But for those that love a big city selection and the finest fashion

In 15 Years of Sports Photography: A First!

Image
With 15 years of experience shooting sports of all sorts I thought I had experienced just about everything possible. Then Saturday happened. Both sides of the gym were packed with fans ready to erupt, like shown above, in support for its respective team! I was court-side with my camera for the highly anticipated matchup between MFL MarMac and Cascade in boys playoff basketball. There was an estimated 2,000+ people in attendance to take in the big game in the gorgeous gym at West Delaware High School in Manchester. I was shooting for Sports Spotlight , a Des Moines based publication that spotlights high school and collegiate athletics across the state. It was a pretty big game as the winner would punch its ticket to the state basketball tournament in Des Moines and the loser would see its season end. (Congrats to the MFL MarMac boys for winning the game...photos HERE !) A photo from the MFL MarMac game against Beckman a few days earlier. I hadn't photographe

Sports Photographer: Have Camera, Will Shoot (Still Available!)

Yesterday's big snowfall across much of Iowa ended up causing many Iowa high school playoff basketball games to be rescheduled. Here's a complete list of rescheduled games (some include site changes) thanks to Iowa Prep Sports for compiling that list. They do great work, I suggest you check them out! With that said, I am still ready and available to photograph any of the numerous games out there (thanks to 4-wheel drive) tonight and tomorrow night!  If any parents go together to hire me I offer discounted pricing! This is a great deal as you will have me there from the time warmups start until the final buzzer (and for celebrations if your team wins!). Whichever game I photograph will also have the opportunity to be featured in Sports Spotlight as I have a partnership with them and submit images to them for use in their publication. Please email me at jscottimages@gmail.com or call my cell at 319.521.3991 for pricing and more details! Some games within my area in

Hitting 2,000 Facebook Fans!

Years ago, I was just a kid with a camera and a desire to shoot sports. I got my start in a Photography class that I took as an elective while in high school at West Delaware High School in Manchester (great school by the way, 2000 graduate!). The year was 1998. Or maybe it was 1999. I guess I'm getting old as my memory isn't working well this morning. =) Well anyway, the point is, Facebook and the age of social media was years down the road. So even though I hadn't thought of myself as a business just yet I was laying the groundwork to where I'd hope to be down the road. But to think that one day I'd have over 2,000 people that would not only declare that they like my work but that they'd like it enough to get updates about it so they could see it (and I'm sure judge it) on a daily--and hourly--basis...now that's just crazy talk! I can remember a time when I'd shoot a high school basketball game and get a rush if any of the players

Iowa High School Basketball Substates: Hire a Professional, Sit Back and Be a Parent! =)

A great read if you're a parent at Dunkerton, North Linn, North Tama, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, Waverly-Shell Rock, Iowa Falls, Waterloo East, Cedar Falls, Western Dubuque, Cedar Rapids Washington, New Hampton, Dike-New Hartford, MFL MarMac or Cascade! Are you tired of trying to take pictures of your son or daughter during some of the biggest games of the year ? Are you tired of your less than stellar point and shoot camera getting less than impressive images of your son or daughter? Do your pictures come out blurry or are the players super tiny because you're about a mile away while trying to take pictures of your kid(s)? If you answered 'Yes' to any one of the questions above then I think it's time you hire me to come to your son or daughter's next game. I'm a photographer that has been photographing sports--high school and  college--for going on 15 years and I have professional training to go along with professional equipment to handle the to
