In 15 Years of Sports Photography: A First!

With 15 years of experience shooting sports of all sorts I thought I had experienced just about everything possible. Then Saturday happened. Both sides of the gym were packed with fans ready to erupt, like shown above, in support for its respective team! I was court-side with my camera for the highly anticipated matchup between MFL MarMac and Cascade in boys playoff basketball. There was an estimated 2,000+ people in attendance to take in the big game in the gorgeous gym at West Delaware High School in Manchester. I was shooting for Sports Spotlight , a Des Moines based publication that spotlights high school and collegiate athletics across the state. It was a pretty big game as the winner would punch its ticket to the state basketball tournament in Des Moines and the loser would see its season end. (This is part one of hopefully many more features that I will bring to you in the coming weeks and months. I hope to spotlight more area businesses that either have a local connection, share a similar interest as I do or feature a unique story that just needs to be told. This is the story of a small town girl living a big city dream!) Natalie Mormann brings a small town smile and charm to Bride's Corner, a 30+ year fixture in the uber-competitive bridal gown market in the Cedar Valley, Iowa and Midwest. Bride's Corner features 3,200 square feet of today's latest fashions in bridal gowns and Prom dresses. Don't let the title "Business Owner" fool you. Natalie Mormann is as small-town as they come. "I'm from the Manchester area and went to Maquoketa Valley High School," she said with a warm, welcoming chuckle. "Sure, there were opportunities to move away and work in a big city but I don't know, I guess I just love this area."

My MAIPP Experience

A few of my shots from MAIPP 2012. (First off all let me send a huge THANK YOU to the MAIPP board for the awesome opportunity to serve for such a highly respected organization! Without all the work put in by Fred Fiddelke, Barb Grabill, Steve Kelly, Eric Niceswanger, John Mohr and countless others, none of this would have been possible! I also want to thank the University of Northern Iowa for providing awesome facilities to work with that were clean and comfortable all week long!) This past week I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to serve as a consultant for the Mid-America Institute of Professional Photography workshop that was held at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
